I have been using the METAR placefile to see obs data in GR and have found what could be a possible bug. It's something that I saw, particularly this morning, in the Boston area (KBOX). The raw report will state that there is freezing rain or drizzle but the icon that shows up in GR indicates fog. The other precip types seem to display properly except freezing rain. If you could look into that, it would be useful for quickly identifying freezing rain cases for analysis purposes. Thanks!

Do you have a screenshot of the error? Also, could you post a copy of the actual METAR? Thanks!

I don't have a screenshot of it but will get one when it comes up again along with the raw METAR. Thanks.

The first one shows a report of light freezing drizzle but with the fog icon. This second one shows a report of light freezing rain but with the cloudy icon. These are from the Kansas City, MO radar. The raw METAR is also in the description pop-up box that is showing on each screenshot.

Thank you for the images and noting the bug! Apparently when I recoded the metar scripts from the ground up earlier this year I neglected to add the freezing rain and/or freezing drizzle categories, in addition to some mixed ptype categories such as RAPL, RASN/SNRA, etc. I think I was too focused on the upcoming convective season I made a fix to the fullobs.php and obs.php scripts and that should fix the problem. However, there may well be a few weather icon errors or rare metar precip reports I haven't accounted for, so if anyone notices, let me know so I can fix it. Thanks again. Attachments:

No problem. If we see any of the other issues, I'll let you know.
