Google update of March 12: welcome to “Florida”..2 on Pop Up Magazine! Surely you SEO professionals know that on March 12th Google released yet another update, which has been confirmed to be one of the most important of the year. From the Search Engine Land website it is confirmed that the name given to the Google update is Florida 2 but that it has nothing to do with one of the updates to the American search engine dating back to 2003, called Florida. Why Florida 2? The name comes from Brett Tabke , owner of the WebmasterWorld forum and PubCon conference .
Why call it Florida 2? The original November 2003 Florida update was named that Find Your Phone Number way because Brett held a PubCon conference in Florida. So everyone called it the “Florida update”. This March 12 update happened a week after another PubCon conference in Florida. So Brett called this new update “Florida 2” as a nod to the original update from over a decade ago, which also dropped during one of the PubCon conferences. So it's important to point out that Florida and Florida 2 have no connection and it was just a coincidence.
Furthermore, it has no connection, at least as revealed by Google, with the August 1st update in the medical field. Many believe it is connected to the writing of higher quality content, which can have a greater impact on SERPs. For now the update has been confirmed by Danny Sullivan but we have no further information on the reasons why it was released. Conclusions So to recap: there was a major update for Google called Florida 2. It's not related to Florida 2003 or even the August 1st medical update.
